The National Short Story Week Young Writer competition 2017

The chance to be a published writer while still at school!

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the 6th National Short Story Week short story competition for year 7 and 8 students. Stories will be judged by a panel of readers and the finalists will be judged by a published author.

The top stories will be published in a paperback and ebook during National Short Story Week 2017.

All royalties will go to the charity War Child. Read more about War Child and why we are supporting their work.

Our previous Young Writer anthologies have been bestsellers on Amazon!

Students who enter must write a short story of between 900 and 1000 words with the title ‘The Decision’. What happens in the story is up to each young writer, but it must be relevant to the title.

There will be four category runners-up:

Best story by a year 7 girl
Best story by a year 7 boy
Best story by a year 8 girl
Best story by a year 8 boy

From these four students, one overall winner will be crowned National Short Story Week Young Writer 2017.

The competition is open to all UK schools and international schools following a UK syllabus.

The competition opens on Monday 14th November 2016.
The deadline for entries is Friday 20th January 2017.
